Is the top shot from the Holy Land, in Waterbury, CT? It looks familiar.

I visited it in the mid 90′s when I was in CT for grad school. Basically one guy wanted to make a whole theme park full of exhibits of biblical stories, but he couldn’t maintain it and since his death, the elements have worn away at what was built. Worth googling for images, too, just to get an idea of what was attempted.

I had one of those DEVIL RIDES OUT and something-or-other Wheatley two-fers in a nice hardback reprint from Crown books. I tried getting into, but gave up 20 pages in; just too dated with the stiff prose and the bits of racism that would pop up now and again.

This is really a children’s film. The hero is the kid. And he’s a good kid. That’s why he wasn’t swept up with the others. It is, however, definitely not an American children’s film. There’s too much blood and nakedness for it be approved for our sensitive children.
