I actually like Machen quite a bit more than Lovecraft. There’s just something about his particular brand of…Welsh dread that resonates with me.

    Hmm, it’s interesting that there’s a Joshi-edited volume of Machen… is it annotated? I seem to recall from The Weird Tale that Joshi wasn’t Machen’s hugest fan (or rather, I think he thought some of Machen’s early stuff was quite good, but found his later works highly disappointing).

    Myself, I like Machen quite a bit, but I think overall I do prefer Lovecraft. That said, I’ll take Blackwood over both of them any day.

    No annotations, but a lengthy introduction and a focus, almost pointedly, on the earlier works.
