I don’t know about elsewhere but I think the Fantasy/Celtic Music crossover hit big in the UK with Clannad’s Robin of Sherwood soundtrack. Even the enormous fantasy goths I knew were still using it to soundtrack their D&D games a decade later.

The Celtic music thing is probably the main thing keeping me away from fantasy.
