Over at The Bureau Chiefs, I take a look at the made-for-cable film Beyond Sherwood Forest, a fantasy version of the Robin Hood story that manages to incorporate a dragon and villainous hench-men that appear to have been cast after appearing in back-issues of Drummer and Bear.
It’s also got Robin Dunne as Robin Hood.

I’ve got no idea how it compares to the new Ridley Scott directed version of the Robin Hood story, but on the quality scale it’s better than the Kevin Costner version but not as good as the Disney version.

Well…the Kevin Costner one was pretty terrible, but on the other hand, I love it simply for Alan Rickman as the Sheriff of Nottingham. I just fast-forward through all the parts that he isn’t in. The reviews of the new version however, say that it takes QUITE a few…liberties with the story.
Saw the first (judging by your minute-by-minute) twenty minutes of that on the UK SyFy a while back, and I don’t know how I lasted that long. Erica Durance gives the best performance in it, which is a bit shocking (although Julian Sands might have lifted the whole thing if someone had woken him up during the shoot).
