Oh, come on, you didn’t think I’d let that pass without comment, did you?

  • It’s nice to see an acknowledgment that the Hercules of myth had an eye for the fellas as well as the ladies.
  • It’s especially nice to see it after the “eromenos” jokes in earlier issues.
  • A significant portion of an Uncanny X-Men storyline focused on Northstar’s crush on Iceman. After that, it’s hard to see how having sex with Hercules could be seen as an embarrassment.
  • Yes, it did occur to me that revealing this after killing off Hercules is convenient timing.
  • (No, I don’t really think Herc will stay dead long. Or that this will ever be addressed again.)

That’s fantastic! I’ve been reading Hercules in trade, so this is new to me. It makes perfect sense, it’s brave – in the way that superhero comic books tend towards being deeply conservative texts & this flies right against that – and it’s funny too.

I love it when there’s even more evidence of intelligent life on planet superhero-writer.

Well, Dorian, we all know that according to those “Cure Away the Gay” groups, there is no cure for “The Gay” like resurrection. Makes you 100% heterosexual!

  3. Tim O'Neil says:

Funny, I thought the most notable thing about these panels was how the artist only knows how to draw one set of female facial features.

  4. Falconer says:

What I have gleaned from my few glimpses of Hercules as he is wrote in the 21st century is that he’s pretty damn gung-ho about sex. He’s always willing and only seeks consent of his partner(s).

I’m somewhat disappointed that Northstar fled, but then I don’t know if there are larger issues here or not; this being my first glimpse at this particular passage. Northstar might have legitimate cause for wanting to avoid argument.

  5. Huh. The phrasing of Northstar’s comment made me think this was an internet meme relettering at first. “Is that the time? Gotta go”? Really, how many French Canadians sound like they just walked off a Vince Vaughn movie?

And Tim O’Neill is spot on about the artist’s lack of facial feature drawing ability. That first panel could be a superhero cosplay montage.

So…what book is this? I don’t want to buy this by accident.

    Brian.

  6. Phill says:

Is it me, or is the phrase “…and lay with him” in the wrong tense or something? “Laid”, maybe.

  7. Joseph says:

If Northstar is departing the group, shouldn’t the speed lines being going in the other direction? It looks like he’s coming. Not leaving.

  8. Evan Waters says:

    He’s backing up, quickly.

  9. Tom Foss says:

Maybe it’s just that Northstar doesn’t want people to think he’s into bears. Especially given how much time he’s spent around Wolverine and Puck.

  10. David says:

Heh, poor little twink Northstar. I would pay a lot to see Herc/Logan/Puck slash…

  12. Isaac says:

Is Snowbird implying that Namor has lain with Hercules, too?

  13. Evan Waters says:

Isaac: That’s what I thought, but I ‘m not sure that’s what the intent. They may just have wanted to show someone reacting to Northstar leaving.

    But it’s possible.
