Like in Black Jack, he removes the uterus of a woman he loves to save her life, but it's made quite clear that their love is over then, because she cannot be a real woman without a uterus. She cuts her hair and starts dressing as a man and becomes a doctor for sailors, a job a woman can't have. It was really weird.
