Parasite, 1994, Jim Mortimore
A big, hard sci-fi adventure, set against a back-drop of planetary civil war and strange alien life-forms. And then everybody dies and the Doctor, Ace and Benny are viciously tortured and put through physical and emotional hell.

In other words, it’s a Jim Mortimore novel, then. :)

  2. “the Doctor, Ace and Benny are viciously tortured and put through physical and emotional hell”

I’d make that “the Doctor, Ace, Benny, and the reader are viciously tortured…”

  3. Wow, somebody likes drawing boobs. Not as keen on legs, though, eh?

    That’s a great cover.

  5. GayProf says:

Judging from the cover, apparently Liza Minnelli plays a critical role in that civil war.

Neat cover in an Erol Otus sort of way.

The first of the “new adventures” books I picked up.

About the time a mysteriously bitter Ace was about to cut out her own eyes, I began to wonder what the hell was going on.

…Speaking of mysteriously bitter, I never *did* find out why ace had vanished from the later books. And previous ones. It really bothered me back then… I couldn’t even find out what book her final fate was in. Just a bunch of ones where The Doctor though things like “Ace… it really sucks what happened to her. It sucks so much I can’t possibly be more specific about it.”

The days before Wikipedia existed were rough ones…
