Lucifer Rising, 1993, Jim Mortimore and Andy Lane
A massive and somewhat convoluted and bloated hard sci-fi novel with a cast of unlikeable, expendable characters. That happens to have the Doctor and company in it. Which, to be fair, is a frequent fault with the novels from this period.

Yeah, I see where you’re coming from. I still found it to be a capable novel (hard sf/mystery) with an interesting explanation for why Time Lords look like humans. In fact isn’t the whole Faction Paradox thing predicated by it?

Oh, man, you just HAD to mention that Faction Paradox junk…

I’d imagine lines like this saw a LOT of frustrated would-be fantasy/sci-fi novelists who shoved in that novel that worked on all through college but could never get published…

I hate all books with “Rising” in the title which is why I was so upset when mine did

  5. Dorian says:

Dude, they gave your political book a horrible, stupid pun for a title. That’s ample cause for rage.

“Bad Moon Rising.” Not a Clearwater fan. After being unable to stop the bad title, I tried to get them to just drop the “Rising” so it would be like the 1996 Michael Paré werewolf movie, “Bad Moon.” No luck…I would have preferred “The Talons of Weng-Chiang”
