No, he’s saying that there’s a difference between a cool James Bond-style “I think he got the drift” quip, and Rex’s “Stupid punk I totally beat you blehh” look. For that matter, Rex could also have avoided asshole status with a look of determination, or even an old-fashioned worried expression and a “Must save the kittens” thought balloon.
