Interesting rankings. I haven’t seen *all* of the Doctors of the classic series yet, but of them, I’d put Pertwee very much towards the top and Tom Baker down, down, at the bottom, right above McGann, who, yes, starred in the worst thing ever, poor guy.

Tennant’s probably my fave, though.

Mark–That’s your perception. The “dark, manipulative Doctor who is more than he appears to be” starts as early as REVELATION OF THE DALEKS and SILVER NEMESIS, and pays off in CURSE OF FENRIC.

Since you list *all* those that have appeared on TV broadcasts, we can surmise a) that Movie and Shalka Doctors are not favorites, b) you might have meant “here’s a ranking of the Doctors, in terms of how I like them,” & c) I get much too pedantic about language.

In any case, you seem to be willing to rank McCoy as a Doctor outside his stories, but judge Troughton by his stories rather than his Doctor. And I wonder if that’s my perception or yours?

Luckily, none of this matters.

I’d switch Donna and Leela, but otherwise, yeah that’s my list too.

Of course the Master wins top villain, who else? Though once again a large part of that is because of the awesome interaction between Pertwee-Doc and the Master. (Was Pertwee the cockiest Doctor? I think so, and that is saying something!)

You’ve actually hit on the head what’s been bothering me about 5th Doctor. I’ve been watching his serials and haven’t been able to put my finger on what exactly it was that kept me from enjoying him as much as I probably should. I thought it was just my distaste for all his companions, but the adolescence and indecision make much more of an impact for me. I thought I was just biased because 4th is my favorite, and so I would naturally view the one immediately after unfavorably, but it turns out I have a remarkably low tolerance for indecisiveness.

See, now, if someone where to ask me “Who is your favorite Doctor,” I’d just reply, “yes.” Or, what I’d call the Russell T Davies Doctor, as I can never decide between Eccleston and Tennant.

Andy–I’ve heard some of the “lost episode” audios, but the bridging narration turned out to be too frustrating for me.

Doug–Ace, Donna, Leela, Sarah Jane, Martha for my top five companions. With the two Romanas in close competetion for number 6.

Tim–TRIAL OF A TIME LORD starts with that fantastic Robert Holmes story, but then it all devolves into Pip and Jane Baker’s usual…not very goodness. At least we got Sabalom Glitz out of it.

Siskoid–Eccleston to Tennant is my favorite. “New teeth. Weird.”

Evan–It’s been sort of suggested that the NAs and BFAs are more-or-less canon: they’ve been directly and indirectly referenced on the show often enough. I tend to be a strict “if we didn’t see it on screen, it didn’t neccessarily happen” fellow when it comes to continuity.

Aaron–You can borrow my discs. BATTLEFIELD is out in May (best Brig story ever) and DELTA AND THE BANNERMEN is out by the end of the year.
